The Bitter Ex-2×2

By Anonymous #10

They’ll tell you that I’m bitter
And I suppose it’s true
After being deceived by someone I trusted
I’d think that’s appropriate, wouldn’t you?

I’m bitter ‘cos they told a Great Big Lie
They told it very well
All white and hairy, dressed up in lambswool
‘Helping’ us to ‘avoid Hell’

I’m bitter because I worked so hard
To live by the rules of the ‘Truth’
Suffocating my vibrant young life
To avoid a ‘mis-spent youth’

I’m bitter because they fooled my Mum,
My Dad, my uncles, my aunts
I’m bitter more, because those who knew better,
Kept quiet…But proudly played their part

They played their part in The Great Deception
“A privilege”, they say
To spread the ‘Holy gospel’
And walk in ‘God’s Wondrous Way’

A way that only They devised,
And amended across the years,
A way that is ‘unchanging’ (???)
That ‘dispels all doubt and fear’

So, if you were to have a doubt
Then YOU, of course, are wrong!
How can you question God’s Only Way,
That’s two thousand and twenty-five (2,025!) years strong?

Except (!) it only began quite recently.
Oh, that’s a story! They say.
You cannot believe historical evidence!…
Unless it’s in the Bible, anyway.

They’ll tell you that I’m bitter
It’s their tried-and-true defence
To distract from looking at Jesus’ own words
And admitting they made a mess.

They’ll tell you that I’m bitter
And I suppose I am
At 39 years, I woke up and realised
I gave my life to a scam.
